Why Perth will never equal Paris

Paris, NY, London and Milan – the fashion capitals of the world. Exciting hubs of cutting edge design and stylish good taste. Where the beautiful flock to see and be seen, and designers fight to outdo each other, sending one unwearable outfit after another down the catwalk. Perth on the other hand – not so much a hub as a gaping hole.

Reality strikes, and it’s pretty dumb

But oh my God, most of the vain little prima donnas on the shows apparently fell right out of the nearest stupid tree, hitting each and every branch on the way down.

Long live the King, the King is dead

Michael Jackson’s death will no doubt go down in history as one of those moments when everyone remembers where they were when they heard – just as when the first man walked on the moon, the Berlin Wall came down, Princess Diana died and 2 planes flew into the Twin Towers.

I’m sniffing, I must have Swine Flu

Call me completely irresponsible, but my daughter needs to learn and I need to work, so she’s not camping out in front of the TV all winter with a box of tissues. She’s had a flu jub and can wear a face mask if need be. So unless she suddenly grows a curly tail and starts to squeal, she is going to keep going to school.

The madness of OAP mums

Take Elizabeth Adeny for example, who at 66 is set to become the oldest mum in the UK. This lady, who is by all accounts a ‘wealthy divorcee businesswoman’, has obviously decided that she wants to have her slab of baby shaped cake and eat it.

Getting hot, hot, hot

After all those months of moaning about how cold it got in the winter, here I am, cooking slowly in my own skin. Add an onion, a c0uple of carrots and a bay leaf and I’ll be good to go…

Bring on the Spring

Yeah, the cold weather is finally on the way out. After a chilly and incredibly wet winter (we were on the brink of building an ark in the garage) Spring is finally making it’s way around to Perth. After months of huddling around the fire and looking pale and pasty, the sun is trying to make a come back and I can already feel my blood slowly starting to defrost.

Down with those Dolls

When you have children I don’t think that you ever really believe that you are going to start thinking like a parent, let alone like your own parent. Yet it happens, and I have to say that for me, the move from young and freethinking to old and paranoid is happening an awful lot [...]

Battle of the baby sexes

Recently I was asked one of those questions that few people dare ask and even fewer wish to answer. A mother (of boys) asked me if it is true that parents of girls look down their noses at noisy little boys and believe them all to be badly behaved and completely undisciplined…. Winter blues

The one thing that surprised me the most about Perth is that the winters here can get cold. Very cold. When I arrived in June last year, I was completely unprepared for what the following months would be like…. (click header to read the rest)
